The Biermans-Lapôtre Foundation, a residence for students from Belgium and Luxembourg located at the Cité Internationale Universitaire de Paris, has housed more than 500 students, researchers and professors from around the world every year since 1926.
Since it was founded, more than 25,000 students have stayed at the Foundation. It also hosts academic, scientific and cultural activities organised by universities in Belgium, Luxembourg and France by or for its own residents.
Created thanks to a donation from Jean-Hubert Biermans and Berthe Lapôtre, the Foundation is the result of an exemplary cooperation between Belgium, Luxembourg and France. Supported financially by the Belgium Science Policy and Luxembourg’s Ministry of Higher Education and Research, the Foundation wants to be the meeting point and showcase of higher education and research of Belgium and Luxembourg in Paris.
Entirely renovated in 2000 by the governments of Belgium and Luxembourg, the Biermans-Lapôtre Foundation has a remarkable infrastructure: 201 rooms, 18 studios and rooms for IT, reading, fitness and cinema, a library, an exhibition gallery, and an auditorium that seats 400 people.
As well, the Foundation offers bursaries for a maximum duration of one to three months to students with artistic and scientific projects.
Moreover, I would like to inform you that since 2010-2011, the Biermans-Lapôtre Foundation has implemented a fee reduction system for the newly admitted through Belgian and Luxembourg commissions . This discount of 100 euro a month is attributed based on income.
This institution is a study and meeting place for international mobility. The residence has already welcomed students and researchers of more than 23 nationalities.
Finally, the Foundation is run by a board of directors presided by His Excellency the Ambassador of Belgium to France, as well as representatives from Belgium, Luxembourg and France. It is lead by a director and an assistant director, part of a team of five people working for the Foundation.
